Knit Cambridge 2010

The Knit Cambridge 2010 project was really cool! What is it? Well, in different buildings (cafes and such) had a basket with knitting needles and yarn. If you wanted to you could knit. It could be anything style or thing you wanted. You would continue were the last person left off or could bring something in that you made at home. When the date when they stopped the knitting. They took it all and, put it up on the bridge here in Cambridge. It looks amazing! They took knitted hats and scarves and put them on the sphere on the bridge.

Giant Hogweed

The Giant Hogweed is a plant that can burn skin. If someones arm rubs against it the spot can start to burn! The plant is said to be able to grow 2-5 meters (rarely 7 meters) tall! People are working hard to get rid of The Giant Hogweed but, they have so many darn seeds it keeps growing back! Hope fully this evil plant will be taken down! But for now stay safe!

Devils

We all probably think of devils as a giant unidentified red creature with horns and a pointed tail. And it might be. But if we're all apart of God, and nobody's perfect. Doesn't it mean that we are God and the Devil. We're all evil and good. Even mass murderers must have a little bit of good in them. Some of them turn themselves in! Isn't that a form of honesty? Even if it's to late. If you look around you there's tons of different people of different shapes and sizes. There's the pretty cheerleader. And than there's the overweight one. You look at the cheerleader like she must be super nice. And you look at the one who is overweight as if there ready to kill. But if you dig down deep. You can see that flare of evil in the cheerleaders eye and the flick of good in the overweight one. Both have a little of each. Therefore we are everyone and everything.

Stones

Stones. There's tons of different ones. I'm not talking about little pebbles you find in a rock pit. I'm talking about stones that protect you.

                                                                        Blood Stone

                                                              Amethyst Gem Tree

                                                                        Tigers' eye

                                                                    Blue Moonstone

                                                                       Hematite

All these stones are a beauty and unique in there own way. If you want to get one why don't you look for a crystal store. The things' you find in them are amazing!

The Tale of The Blood Stone

I tapped my pencil against my desk as I followed the second hand of the clock. It was the last day of school. The last day until freedom from all the royal snobs in my school. The only person who wasn’t  a snob was my best friend Lily. I pretended to listen to my egotistic teacher who bored me by going on and on about how great she was at sports and how many she played in the Summer. Awhile after that I just zoned her out. The girl sitting beside me was passing notes which highly irritated me because she never got in trouble because her parents were the people who payed my teacher Ms.Labar. Time passed by quickly and before I knew it the bell rang. Everybody in Mrs. Labars grade 5 class jumped up and snatched their school bag off their hook in the coatroom. I ran to the exit the torture rectangle when my teacher called my name.

“Lola!” I swung around with a sharp turn and skipped up hoping this wasn’t about my detention I got from nailing a girl in the face. She asked for it. Okay, she asked for it several times, but you think I care? When I made it to the smooth maple wood desk I asked with a smile.

“Yes?” she gave me a sharp look. My smile dropped.

“I know.” She pointed to my seat that should’ve been my old seat by now.
“Mrs. Labar with all due respect,  don’t you think you could let me off the hook. Just this one time! Please, it’s the last day of school. Please?” She looked at me with a stern and angry look I slouched and skidded my feet to my chair, and plopped onto it. Everything seems to happen to me. My Dads’ in the army my Mom doesn’t care if I’m failing school or getting straight A’s and my brother died the day I was born. He was only 11 and he left a letter for everyone in the house hold. Except for me. Everyone in my family found a letter but me. He was there for when I was born in the house. No one was there when his cancer got the best of him. For some reason I wish that I was born before or after that. Maybe if someone was there they could’ve helped him through it. My teacher clapped her hands and said,
“Lola! It’s time for you to go home!” I pushed my chair out grabbed my bag and walked out.
“LOLA! You come back here! You know the end punishment of my detention! You have to push in all the chairs and clean all the desks before you leave!” I ignored her and ran out of the death hole that we call ‘A place of learning’. I walked down the street absent minded of my surroundings. I was thinking of the asthma attack I had a week ago. It was my first one since 4 years ago so it was shocking, but I calmed myself down so it wouldn’t be as bad. When I reached the small burgundy house on the corner of Michigan Avenue I turned and walked inside my house. My Mom was home early making dinner. I crept up the stairs but forgot to skip that one creaky stair, and I stepped on it making a loud squeaking noise. I was dead meat.
“LOLA! You get in this kitchen this instant!” My Mom probably got a call from the school about my detention. I didn’t exactly tell her about it.

“Yes, Mother.” I said shyly. Yup I was dead.

“You’re so stupid! WHY IN THE WORLD WOULD YOU PUNCH A GIRL!” I gritted my teeth at my mothers rude remark.

“So what am I suppose to do. Say okay go ahead push me to the ground! Spread rumours about me! There’s nothing wrong with that! No nothing!” I shrieked.

“LOLA! JUST BECAUSE YOUR DAD IS IN THE ARMY AND IS GOING TO WAR IN AFGHANISTAN AND YOUR BROTHER DIED AND YOU HAVE A SEVERE CASE OF ASTHMA DOESN’T MEAN YOU GET AWAY WITH THINGS!” My Mom yelled.

“Oh please Mom!!! You get away with everything! In fact I think the only thing you’ve said nice to me in this whole month is how pretty I am! And I don’t care if I’m an ugly rat or the prettiest person in the universe, because I don’t need beauty if the rest of my life is in the dump!” I was saying the truth.

“Don’t be such a drama queen! You need a smidge of reality!’

“ A SMIDGE OF REALITY MOM!?! MORE LIKE A BUCKET NO. CITY! NO. PROVINCE! NO. COUNTRY OF REALITY!”

“Lola! Don’t you dare give me that tone!”

“Might as well! My dignity is already shot!”

“WHAT DIGNITY?” My mom screamed. I stared at my Mom and my eyes started to water. I walked out of the kitchen to the front door. I slipped on my shoes grabbed my backpack, and opened the door.

“Were do you think you’re going young lady!” My Mom said.

“OUT! WITH ANY LUCK I’LL GET KIDNAPPED! IT’LL BE BETTER THAN THIS PRISON JOINT!” I slammed the door behind me and I could hear my Mom scream. I held back my tears and continued walking. I found a can later and started kicking it. I took out my iPod and put on the song We will Rock you by Queen and started singing it but changed the lyrics.

“Buddy you’re a young girl sad girl walking in the streets gunna take on your Mom some day. You got tears on ya face you dumb disgrace. Kicking that can all over the place. Singing... I will I will be great! I will I will be great!” I than continued humming the tune. I didn’t realized how far I walked until I lifted my head up and looked to the left. I saw a girl about me on the streets. I realized she was homeless a lady came up to her and started to yell at her saying,

“GET UP! FIND AN ORPHANAGE! DO SOMETHING WITH YOUR LIFE!” I still stood and watched the lady left. Than a man came up to her and threw a rock at her and kicked her continuously I couldn’t stand watching it. I ran to the man and pushed him away.

“LEAVE HER ALONE! WHAT DID SHE DO TO YOU?!” The man was very mad with me.

“SHE GOT IN MY WAY SHE’S USELESS!” The girl started crying and mumbled the words,

“Please sir, what’ve I done to you? I’ve nowhere to go. Please don’t hurt me anymore.” I looked at the girl and sat down in front of her.

“If you want to beat her that bad you’re going to have to beat me to death. Then I’ll call the cops. That wouldn’t be fun would it?” The man didn’t reply and ran away. I shifted beside the girl.

“Are you okay?” She stuttered and then said shyly,

“Yes, I thank you so much!” I smiled and looked into my backpack and took out my lunch bag and three plastic water bottles I left in my backpack.

“What’s this?” she asked.

“Here’s my lunchbox. I wasn’t hungry or thirsty today. You can have the food and water. I over load my backpack with food and water every day. Keep the lunchbox to keep it together. Be careful to save it all. It’s not every day someone gives you things like this.” I said in a mini speech.

“OH THANK YOU! THANK YOU A MILLION TIMES!”

"I helped you. But I expect nothing in return. I've to go now. I'll pray for you." I got up and started to walk away the girl smiling that I thought her mouth might fall off. When I got home I kicked off my shoes and ran upstairs. My Mom was yelling my name, but I ignored her. I jumped into my bed not caring that it was only 7:00 p.m, and that I was still in my clothes. I didn't care about any of that. All I did was keep my promise. I clasped my hands together and started praying.

Dear God,
I pray for the girl on the streets. I pray that she stays healthy and safe. I pray that my Dad stays safe in Afghanistan and that everything and everyone that needs praying for I pray for.
Amen.

I than fell to my pillow and drifted to sleep.
The next morning I woke up to my screaming. I sat in bed for a minute thinking of the terrible dream I have every night. The dream where my Dads fighting for Afghanistan, and...bad things happen to him. The next thing I see is me and my Mom crying and me hurting myself. Serverly. So serverly it leads to the same place my father ends up... up there. I got out of bed, and lazily walked to the kitchen. I poured myself a bowl of cereal and sat down in the living room. I turned on the TV and on the screen...there was something terrifying. Something I've been praying that wouldn't happen. On the TV they were talking about another shooting in a hotel in Mexico. The same hotel my Grandma was staying at. I couldn't take it. So I screamed at the top of my lungs with tears in balling out of my eyes.

"MOM!" She came running down the stairs.

"What? What's wrong honey?" I tryed to take the words I needed out of my mouth.

"Grandma! Mexico! Hotel!" My Mom calmed me down and I said it more clearer.

" On the TV they were talking about a shooting at the same hotel grandmas staying at in Mexico." My mom started crying at this to.

"It`ll be okay honey." I looked up at her.

"Mom! You say everythings okay! All the time! You forget it never is okay! It never will be!" My Mom gave me a stern look. I didn't stop.

"Were stuck in a rut of disaster!" She started to become red. I knew it was a bad time but I didn't care at all.

"God is punishing us! Punishing us for a sin we've never done!" My Mom now opened her mouth and yelled.

"LOLA! GOD NEVER PUNISHES!"

"God does punish Mom! Isn't God everything and everyone. Heaven on earth?" She now calmed.

"Yes. He is."

"Than how come there's misery?" I weeped.

"How come there's war! Earthquakes! Cancer! Asthma! Seperation of familys?!"

"Lola. People decide to do that!"

"MOM! YOUR A LIER! I'M ABSOULUTELY SURE PEOPLE WOKE UP ONE DAY AND SAID. HEY I'M GOING TO GIVE MYSELF CANCER! YEAH MOM THAT'S REALLY HOW IT WORKS!" She looked at me unsteadily than stormed out of the room without a look back to me. I knew I didn't enjoy getting into fights with my Mom. I was already very out spoken as it was, but there was something about me that made me feel that there was something more to be seen. Somthing more important that was yet to be found. I walked to the kitchen still in thought. Than took a piece of paper and pencil and wrote to my Mom.

Mom,
I`m taking a walk. Going window browsing. I might get something. Anyways....I'll be back soon. Love ya! Bye.
Lola

I slipped on my shoes and walked out of the door. Looking around myself once I reached downtown. I walked by window after window none of which caught my eye. Than I came upon a store called Energy Saver. It really reeled me in as I began walking towards the small brick building. I opened the door as the bells jingled above me. I began to browse and stopped at the front desk were they had a glass case. I looked at the stones they had on display. One which was really truly beautiful. I than looked up and said to a person who worked at the store.

"May I see that green one." I pointed to it. The store clerk responded.

"Yes, the blood stone a good choice." She pulled it out and handed it to me. I stared at it and looked closely at it's texture a green shade with speckles of red in it. She than handed me a slip of paper which I was planning on throwing out. She measured my neck and cut some string chaining the stone on to it. I slipped it onto my neck and gave the lady my money. As I exited the door I decided to hold onto the slip of paper. I strolled home and when I got there I opened the door and closed it behind me. Praying my Mom wouldn't be mad at me for leaving. Luckily she was in a good mood.

"Hi honey." she said with delight. I smiled as I slipped off my shoes. I walked into the kitchen and said,

"Hi Mom."

"What did you get?" My Mom said looking pleased to see me for once.

"This stone called a blood stone. The lady that worked there gave me some string to make it into a necklace."

"That's nice." I smiled and walked up to my room. As I sat in my bed I took out the slip of paper and started to read it.
                                                                   The Blood Stone
The Blood Stone got it`s name from an old myth. The myth was that this exact stone was underneath the cross of where Jesus was crucified. They say drops of his blood fell on this stone giving it the red speckles. This stone gives you good luck and helps you stay healthy.

I bet it does. I smirked at the stone and than sat it down on the counter top next to my bed. I didn`t realize how tired I was until i layed on my side and fell asleep instantly.  I woke up the next morning happy and in a good mood. Infact I was super happy that my Mom was acting nice to me again. I than heard my Moms yell.

"LOLA! COME DOWN HERE! I'VE A SURPRISE FOR YOU!" I smiled and ran downstairs. There at the bottom of my stairs I saw my Dad.

"DAD!" I shrieked and ran to jump and hug him.

"I CAN'T BELIEVE YOUR HERE!" He grinned at me and said.

"They said I could leave the military, and take a new job that was open for the gouverment here." I was smiling so much it hurt.

"YEAH!" My Mom looked at me.

"Come to the kitchen." I skipped to the kitchen and saw my Grandma sitting in a chair eating some toast.

"GRANDMA! YOUR OKAY!"

"Yes Lola dear I am."

"It's like a million miracles happened at once! Maybe God didn't notice are family needed help! Maybe god didn't notice we had A Smidge of Reality stuck on us."

"A smidge of reality Lola? More like a Bucket of reality." My Mom said.

"More like a city of reality." Exclamied my Dad.

"A Province of reality!" Exaderated my Grandma.

"A COUNTRY OF REALITY!" I shrieked. Than my Dad said to me.

"There's something that I found in my suitcase from your brother on the way back." He handed a old worn out envelope to me. I opened the envelope and started reading the letter inside.

Dear, Lola
Although you can't remember me, and might never get this letter. I hope you still love me. I love you. I'll miss you in heaven. I know I've not much time left. But I still will be there for you.
Love, Your brother

I looked at the letter and than smiled.

"HE DID WRITE ME A LETTER AFTER ALL!"

"Yes." Chorused my Mom, Dad and Grandma.

"I think this is the beginning of a new life." And so it was.

Angels

Angels. Mysterious creatures. Majestic, magical. And frightening. How? Well have you ever seen an angel? I have. Probably something that scared me half to death. A 7 foot huge feathered winged spirit. Standing in your room. Flashing. I happen to see them during struggling times. Like the first time I saw one. I was staying in a hotel. Staying there to look at homes over the week. I woke up around 1:00am I think. I didn't check the clock. Than I saw a big, winged creature flashing. It scared me so I shut my eyes scared. A few days later we got a call that my Nonno (It means Grandpa in Italian) was in the hospital. So if you do see an angel don't be scared it's just super cool! :D
